The European Constitution is the name commonly used to describe the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe (TCE).  This is an international treaty between member states of the European Union that was signed on the 29th of October 2004 but remains unimplemented as it was rejected in referendums during the process of ratiufication by individual member states.  The French people rejected the treaty on the 29th of May 2005, the Dutch people voted against the European Constitution on the 1st of June 2005.

Following this failure to ratify the European Constitution, The European Council decided in June 2007 to start negotiations on a replacement known as the Reform Treaty with same stated aim of replacing the many overlapping treaties that form the basis for the European Union, streamilining decision making and codifying human rights law acroiss the Union.

Like it or not the European Union holds huge influence over life in Britain today. If you've read anything at all in the press recently about the European Union you will be aware that a treaty called the "Reform Treaty" is currently under discussion.  The "Reform Treaty" is, by most European politicians and comentators, agreed to be a replacement for the European constitution which failed to come into force due to being rejected by French and Dutch voters in referendum held in 2005.

All of the major political parties in the United Kingdom promised a refferendum on the European Constitution, the Labour party have the power to deliver on this commitment, Euro Vote exists to measure public opinion on European issues, the current hot topic is the "Reform Treaty", so have your say, should Gordon Brown deliver on his party's manefesto commitment and allow the people to vote or should we trust him when he says that this treaty is not significant enough to need a referendum?

Have your say!
